…a pleasure, but not only is it joyful, it is fascinating. To be able to read is not the same as being able to understand what you read. I learned that in these authors' works. Just because I read about slavery or feminism does not mean I understand it; I have to make myself read it again and comprehend it for myself...and for my ancestors who did not care enough to identify with it.
