The Minimum Legal Drinking Age (MLDA) has been a controversial issue ever since the 1850's. The reason I chose to research this topic was to discover the pros and cons of lowering the legal drinking age to 18. decreased. The age 21 MLDA is further supported by the fact that drinking rates were reduced even after youth turned age 21. In contrast, individual's approaches have generated only short-term reductions in underage drinking. Despite the MLDA of 21, minors still have easy access to alcohol from commercial and social sources. The observed benefits of the MLDA have occurred with little or no active enforcement. Their must be much more debate and legislation before this issue is resolved.
