Flaw of averages

After reading the article "The Flaw of Averages," I agree with certain statements made by the author, but I am not in complete agreement with the methodology the author used. In the article, the author does present a number of valid examples to support his opinions, however I would counter that there are a number of issues that could have been considered that were not.

could represent a variety of things.
Certainly all methods have flaws and my interpretation is no exception. There will always be times when data appears to correlate to something but is actually random or vice versa, or the data is influenced by outliers, we must just remember it is important not to use blanket statements like "using averages is bad," but rather to ask the question "Is this an appropriate time to use an average?"
