Even after the blast, the Japanese government disagreed about surrendering. To break the deadlock, Emperor Hirohito requested that they bring peace to Japan and surrender. On August 14, 1945, the Japanese agreed to surrender. The next day, the emperor broadcast over the radio to his people, announcing that the war was over.
